Securing Oil Drain Bolt: There have been incidents caused
by rider's oil drain bolts falling out, resulting in crashes and
lost track time. Fortunately, no one has been severely injured as a
result of these mishaps. To stop this trend we are revising our
safety wire policy to require safety wire or RTV silicone adhesive
on all oil drain bolts. We will spot check bikes as they enter the
track to insure compliance. Naturally, we will be available to help
any riders who have questions or need assistance with this
requirement. By the way, pre-drilled, safety wire-ready, drain
plugs can be purchased from a variety of retailers (to include
Racer's Edge,
www.extremestreet.com) for those not wishing to drill their own
bolts.
Trackside Support: We are working with Dale Kieffer's Racer's
Edge to provide the ultimate in convenient trackside support. Under
this new program you can purchase items online and have them
delivered to the track the morning of your track day. Visit
www.extremestreet.com/support.htm to shop and fill out your
order form.
WERA Racing
Licenses: Would you like to take your track riding to the next
level by becoming a club racer? SoCal Track Days, in
conjunction with Jim Cox Racing, can help you make that
happen. We provide the training necessary to obtain a race license
with WERA Motorcycle Roadracing (www.wera.com)
at our track days. The training consists of a combination of
classroom and on track instruction culminating in a “mock race” to
insure you have mastered the requirements. Jim Cox is the primary
instructor for the training. We are fortunate to have Jim’s skill
and expertise available for this program. In addition to his many
years as a motorcycle racer and Dunlop tire representative, Jim has
also been teaching new racer schools for the past 14 years. He has
trained literally hundreds of racers throughout the southwestern
U.S. The course of instruction costs $100 (in addition to the fee
for your track day) and will take most of the morning to complete.
You must register and pay for the entire track day to be eligible
to participate in the race license training. After completing
the training you must contact WERA to issue the license, the fee for
the license is currently $100. As an added benefit, even if you
never intend to race, having a race license will allow you to take
advantage of the racer discounts available through most major
motorcycle parts retailers (e.g. Lockhart-Phillips) and speed shops.
